Women of September 2020: Tanyea Griffin

Tell us a little about yourself and who you are? I am a single mother of 2 wonderful daughters. I am currently the administrative assistant/conference coordinator for the WCCP Association and a student at HCC (Hillsborough Community College). My goal is to get into the nursing program and pursue my dream of being in the medical field.

How does a day in your life look like these days? My day starts at 8:00 a.m. when my workday begins. I am working from home so I currently have no commute. :) I am off by 3:30, and on a good day, I get ready for a workout with my youngest daughter (rollerblading, HIIT, walking/jogging, etc.). After that, a shower, dinner, and studying for the rest of the evening.

What makes you unique? My ability to persevere through my trials always seeing the brighter side of life.

What is your “why?” What inspires you every day to do more/better? My why is my daughters. I hope to lead by example, showing them to always pursue their goals and dreams no matter what life brings. I also want to impact them and others, to make a difference.

Tell us about your career and how you got started? My career with the WCCP got started in an interesting way. Before this, I was the salon coordinator for JCP for a number of years. When JCP sold to new ownership my position, along with all other front desk receptionists was discontinued. Once word got out that I would be losing my job one of the customers approached me and mentioned that his wife (Stacy Hosman), had a small company and was looking for an assistant, he asked for my information and 7 years later here we still are.

What are your future goals? My foremost goal is to finish school and become an RN where I can make a difference.

How do you empower other women? I hope that I empower other women by my perseverance, encouragement, and loyalty. It is important that we as women believe that we can achieve our goals and make a difference in someone else's life.
